On acoustic guitar and cello, Nick Naffin and Alyssa Wright play instrumental music influenced by classical music, flamenco, tango, fusion and jazz.
In various ensembles, Alyssa and Nick have performed together at venues such as Toronto’s Music Gallery, Horseshoe Tavern, Tranzac Club and Harbourfront Centre, appeared on Global Television and City TV, and played at festivals from the Toronto’s Downtown Jazz Festival and North by Northeast (NXNE) to the Stan Rogers Folk Festival in Canso, Nova Scotia.
Naffin & Wright was formed in 1998 to explore the different, more intricate forms and the delicate interplay of an acoustic duo. A taste of it can be heard on their CD Muskoka Dreamtime, released in 1999 on Northern Breeze Records. After receiving airplay across Canada, the United States, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Germany, Norway and Portugal, Naffin & Wright's second album, featuring some very special guests from the Canadian classic and world music scenes, is currently in production.
Making their duo debut at the Elora Fringe Festival, Naffin & Wright have performed at clubs like Toronto’s Free Times Cafe, Oasis, and Hugh's Room, and at the Bellwoods Acoustic Concerts series, the Eaglewood and Caledon Folk Festivals, at Toronto's Second City Theatre and the Guelph Jazz Festival.
On stage, the liquid geometry of classical and Brazilian harmonies, the use of Latin, Arabic and AfroCuban rhythms, and the focus on improvisation all come together for a spirited blend of ‘chamber jazz’. |
